Welcome Message
I am deeply honored to have been appointed as the Chairman of the upcoming 69th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Anesthesiologists (JSA). This meeting will be held in Kobe from June 16 to 18, 2022 (Thursday to Saturday).
The COVID-19 pandemic has severely affected many academic meetings, including ours. The 67th meeting was held virtually, while the 68th meeting is now being organized as a hybrid of virtual and on-site sessions in Kobe. Likewise, the International Symposium on the History of Anesthesia (ISHA), initially scheduled in 2021, has also been postponed to 2022. Under these circumstances, I expect the 69th Annual Meeting to be the benchmark of innovative academic meetings.
The theme for both the 69th JSA Annual Meeting and 10th ISHA is "Exploring our origin and future." Pain relief, respiratory management, and fluid management, which anesthesiologists extensively deal with, have been major therapeutic concerns since the beginning of medical practice and remain significant issues to this day. This fact has remained steadfast during this SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. People worldwide are now reaffirming that health is fundamental for peaceful daily life and society. Hence, in the two upcoming meetings, we would like to explore both the rich history and promising future of the field of anesthesia.
We, and the executive committee, are currently working hard on planning the programs and events to make the meeting successful and beneficial to all potential participants. The program committee is trying to adopt the benefits of virtual meetings and inalterable authentic merits of on-site sessions. Although it may be difficult for you to take time off from your busy clinical practice, I sincerely hope that you can attend the 69th Annual Meeting to be able to bring new knowledge, techniques, and wellness not just to your future practice but also your professional life.
